A birthday that falls on 29 February is counted on 28 February in years that have no 29th.
The calendar age counts whole years, then whole months, then leftover days — not a 365.25-day average. That is why it differs from the total-days figure divided by 365.
Someone born on 15 June 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 8 days old on 23 October 2026 — that is 13,279 days, 1,897 weeks, or 318,696 hours. Their next birthday is 15 June 2027, in 235 days, when they turn 37. Move the end date and every figure moves with it.
Years, months, and days — not a decimal
The headline figure is a calendar age: whole years first, then whole months, then the leftover days. It is not total days divided by 365.25, which is why the two readings disagree by a few days in either direction.
Birth date 1990-06-15
End date 2026-10-23
─────────────────────────────────
Years 2026 − 1990 = 36
Months October (10) − June (6) = 4
Days 23 − 15 = 8 ← positive, so no borrowing
Result 36 years, 4 months, 8 days
The borrow only appears when the end day is earlier in its month than the birth day. End the same life on 10 April 2026 and the day column goes negative, so one month is borrowed from the months column and the days are counted on from 15 March: the answer becomes 35 years, 9 months, 26 days.
The same span, five ways
| Reading | Value |
|---|---|
| Calendar age | 36 years, 4 months, 8 days |
| Total months | 436 |
| Total weeks | 1,897 |
| Total days | 13,279 |
| Total hours | 318,696 |
All four are the same stretch of time. Which one is useful depends on what you are filling in: forms usually want the calendar age, and anything that pays by the hour is easier to sanity-check in weeks.
Why the end date is an input
Most age calculators read your computer's clock. This one cannot: the page is built ahead of time, so a clock reading taken when it was built would be stale by the time you opened it, and worse, it would disagree with what your own browser thinks. So you set the date yourself. Type today's date to get your age as of today, or type any other date to answer questions like "how old was I on the day I started this job" or "how old will I be when the mortgage is paid off".
Two details are worth knowing:
- Dates are counted in UTC, so the answer does not shift by a day depending on where you are.
- A birthday on 29 February is counted on 28 February in years that have no 29th, which is the convention most forms expect.
Common uses
- Forms and eligibility. Age bands for sports leagues, pensions, and benefits almost always use the calendar age on a specific date, not a rounded decimal.
- School and daycare cutoffs. Enter the cutoff date rather than today to see which side of the line a child falls on.
- Retirement planning. Set the end date to your target retirement date to get the exact age you will be.
- Records. A doctor's or employer's form asking for "age at date of visit" is exactly this calculation.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the date of birth.
- Leave the end date as it is, or change it to today's date for your current age.
- Read the calendar age, then the totals underneath it.
- Open the birthday list to see the next five birthdays and the age reached on each.
- For a date range instead of an age, use the tip calculator for bills or the GPA calculator for grades.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my age in years, months, and days?
Subtract the birth date from the end date one column at a time: years, then months, then days, borrowing a month when the end day is earlier in the month than the birth day. The calculator does exactly that and shows the result as 36 years, 4 months, 8 days for a 15 June 1990 birthday on 23 October 2026.
Why is this different from dividing by 365.25?
Because months are not all the same length. A calendar age counts whole calendar months; a 365.25-day average smooths them out and drifts by several days over a lifetime. Both describe the same span — only one matches what a form expects.
Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change the end date to anything you like. Age on 1 January 2026, age on your next appointment, or the age you will be when a loan is paid off are all the same calculation with a different end date.
What happens with a 29 February birthday?
The birthday is counted on 28 February in common years, so the age ticks over on the same day of the year as everyone else. The birthday list applies the same rule.
How many days old am I?
The default example is 13,279 days. Enter your own birth date and end date to get yours; the same figure is also shown in weeks, months, and hours.
Does the time zone matter?
No. Dates are parsed and counted in UTC, so the result is the same wherever you are and does not move by a day across a timezone boundary.
Data sources: The calendar age is computed by year/month/day subtraction with month-length borrowing, using UTC date arithmetic so the result is identical on every device. Totals are exact day counts between the two dates: weeks are whole weeks (floor of days ÷ 7), hours are days × 24. Leap years are handled by the standard Gregorian rule, and 29 February birthdays fall back to 28 February in common years. Daylight saving time is irrelevant because no times are involved. All calculations run in your browser.
